Potting Soil vs. Garden Soil: What's the Difference?

Potting soil (or potting mix) is a lightweight, fast-draining blend made for containers. Garden soil is heavier and meant to be mixed into in-ground beds. Using garden soil in pots can compact and suffocate roots, while potting mix dries out too fast in the ground.
